Interior - What the Auto Press Says

While reviewers are pleased with the space available in the 2010 PT Cruiser's interior, most don't like what's in it.  Several call interior materials cheap and say build quality is poor.  What's more, the PT Cruiser is short on available features.

  • "PT Cruiser's interior makes liberal use of hard plastics." -- Consumer Guide
  • "The retro themes evident in the 2010 PT Cruiser's exterior are also reflected in its cabin, most notably in its thin-spoked steering wheel and an old-timey round transmission shifter knob."  -- Edmunds
  • "It's a good size, with enough seating and non-seating variations to make it either a micro-van or small people-carrier."-- The Auto Channel,
  • "We weren't nearly as unanimous in our opinions about the design and quality of the Cruiser's interior. Half of our drivers agreed with [one of our editors], who called the interior 'appallingly cheap. Everything within sight looks cheap and tacky.' But [a different editor] voiced the opinions of others that 'fit and finish are really well done, and surfacing is basically attractive.'" -- Automobile Magazine

Seating

Chrysler says that the 2010 PT Cruiser seats five adults, but some reviewers feel that four will be more comfortable. Most reviewers, however, find the front seats comfortable. As for the rear seats, reviews are mixed

  • "Headroom is just adequate for tall drivers, despite PT's high-body build. Chair-height seats are comfortable." -- Consumer Guide
  • "The interior is quite spacious, with enough room to accommodate taller occupants; however, shorter drivers may find the flat seats and elevated driving position a bit awkward." -- Edmunds
  • "The PT's seats were almost unanimously praised for comfort" -- Automobile Magazine.
  • "The front bucket seats provide above-average support" -- MSN
  • "Outboard passengers have adequate space, but the center rear position is cramped" -- Cars.com

Interior Features

The 2010 PT Cruiser has basic standard features, including a sliding sun visor with covered vanity mirrors, a tachometer, an AM/FM stereo with CD player, four speakers and auxiliary input jack, cruise control, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, remote power door locks and front reading lights and power windows.  Reviewers don't discuss how well the features work, however, competitors like the Chevrolet HHR offer more optional amenities, like remote start and an entertainment system.

  • "The instrument panel carries on the exterior's retro theme but is contemporary for its ease of use. The power-window switches are mounted on the dashboard, which is unconventional and inconvenient." -- Consumer Guide

Cargo

Reviewers like the PT Cruiser's large cargo area. Behind the front seats is 21.2 cubic feet of storage space. When the backseats are flipped down, there's 63 cubic feet of cargo room available. Chrysler says the Cruiser's interior has 160 different seating and cargo configurations, with various shelves, platforms and cubbyholes for storing a wide variety of large and small objects.

  • "Cargo room is generous and versatile. A fold-flat front-passenger seat is handy for loading long objects. Space is modest behind the rear seat, but a 65/35 split rear bench folds or removes to create a tall, wide cargo bay." -- Consumer Guide
  • "The 65/35-split-folding rear seats can be flipped forward, but not flat, for added cargo space. These seats are removable, and in this configuration, allow for 63 cubic feet of storage space." -- Edmunds
