Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser doesn't have the safety features that others in its class offer.

The PT Cruiser hasn’t been evaluated in government crash tests since 2008. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety testing, the Cruiser earns the highest possible rating, "Good," for protecting occupants in a frontal-impact crash.  However, it earned the lowest possible rating, "Poor," in side-impact testing -- even with side airbags.

There are almost no accident avoidance features on the base model PT Cruiser. Anti-lock brakes are optional. The Chevrolet HHR has both anti-lock brakes and stability control standard.

The PT Cruiser has multistage frontal air bags for the driver and front-seat passenger. Side airbags are standard, but side curtain airbags, which protect an occupant's head, are not available.
