Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

The Dodge Avenger's aggressive physical appearance is polarizing, and it anchors the sedan in the bottom half of the affordable midsize car rankings for exterior. Compared to some sedans Car and Driver says "the Avenger looks rather overwrought." But New Car Test Drive says it brings "some real style to the middle of the American car market, competing directly against a host of cars that are shaped like half-dissolved lozenges."

Automobile Magazine refers to the new Avenger's look as "a three-quarter-scale Charger," while the Detroit News calls it "a Stratus wearing a Charger costume for Halloween." Car and Driver notes, "The Avenger's squared-off contours, especially up front, give it a small measure of distinction from its big brother, and it's generally agreed in our camp that the 'Chargerette' is way better-looking than the Sebring."

Another camp is very pleased. MSN notes the Avenger "is a judicious exercise in Dodge sporty looks that aren't overdone." The Kansas City Star says, "Even the nose, with its cross-hair grille, large headlamps and vertical lines stamped into the hood, carries hints of muscle." Lastly, The Truth About Cars says the Avenger "offers a distinctive design -- especially compared to the boring (e.g. Honda Accord) and outright ugly (e.g. Toyota Camry) sedans that dominate the class."
