Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2009 Dodge Caliber does very well in government crash tests, but receives a disappointing score from the insurance industry for side impact tests. However, Dodge offers many of its safety systems as expensive options, while much of the Caliber's competition provides the same features as standard equipment.

Crash Tests

  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the Caliber five out a possible five stars for both front and side impact tests. In addition, the Caliber receives a four out of five star rollover rating.
  • The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2009 Caliber a "Good" score for frontal offset tests, but the second lowest score, "Marginal," for side impact testing without the additional side air bags.

Safety Features

The Dodge Caliber has an Electronic Stability Porgram that's standard on the SRT4 trim and optional for the SXT and R/T models. All Calibers come with standard advanced multistage air bags for the driver and front passenger, a knee-blocker air bag and supplemental side curtain airbags. Side seat airbags are optional. The Caliber is also designed with crush zones to divert energy away from an impact zone.
