Safety - What the Auto Press Says
Despite some reported problems with visibility, the 2008 Dodge Charger offers a number of optional safety features, and does admirably in federal government crash tests.
The 2008 Dodge Charger earned five out of five stars for driver protection in front impact crashes, and five out of five stars for front passenger protection. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety gives the 2008 Dodge Charger a rating of "good" for frontal offset test results, "marginal" for side impact test results and "marginal" for rear crash protection. Also note that without side airbags, the 2008 Charger is rated "Poor."
Accident Avoidance
2008 Chargers can come with optional brake assist, an electronic stability program and anti-lock four-wheel disc brakes. These features are standard on all but the base model. However, standard accident avoidance features are limited.
Some reviewers note that visibility in hindered in the Charger, making clear views a challenge. Cars.com says that the long side windows "aid visibility, but the low roof and steep windshield can make it difficult to see some overhead traffic lights." New Car Test Drive adds that, "A-pillars designed to meet roll-over standards are thick, which makes checking for pedestrians and crossing traffic becomes more difficult."
Crash Protection
The base 2008 Charger comes with Advanced Multistage Front airbags. Chargers can come fitted with optional Supplemental Side Curtain airbags, Supplemental Front Seat-Mounted Side airbags and Supplemental Side Curtain Front and Rear airbags.
