Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Charger performs well in federal government crash tests -- earning five out of five stars in frontal-impacts and four stars in rollover tests. Reviewers criticized last year's Charger because its side airbags were only optional. In fact, the '09 Charger received a rating of "poor" (the lowest possible) in side-impact crash tests  conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety when not equipped with optional side airbags. However, Dodge now makes side curtain airbags standard for all 2010 models. Other standard safety features include Advanced Multistage Front airbags, as well as an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). Still, a common reviewer complaint is hindered visibility from the driver's seat.

  • "Thick front roof pillars obscure view to front corners." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Long side windows aid visibility, but the low roof and steep windshield can make it difficult to see some overhead traffic lights. Outside visibility for rear passengers may be obstructed by the C-pillars." -- Edmunds
  • "A-pillars designed to meet roll-over standards are thick, which makes checking for pedestrians and crossing traffic becomes more difficult." -- New Car Test Drive
