The 2014 Dodge Dart earns approval from most professional car reviewers for its sporty handling, user friendly tech features and comfortable cabin. Does this mean it can hold up to its rivals in the compact class? I am Jim Sharifi, Senior Editor with US News Best Cars. Lets find out if the 2014 Dodge Dart is the right car for you.
The Dodge Dart was all new in 2013 and remains mostly unchanged for 2014. The base model comes with a 4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed automatic transmission is optional on every trim level but the Limited, where it comes standard.
The base Dart gets an EPA estimated 24 miles per gallon in the city and 34 on the highway which is low for its class. However, equipped with the smaller optional turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, the Dart returns an impressive 28 in the city and 40 on the highway which is excellent for the class. The Dart comes in five trims and pricing ranges from about $16,000 to just under $23,000 depending on options and trim.
All Dart models come with a 4-cylinder engine. The base SE trim comes with 2.0 Liter, 4-cylinder engine which reviewers say is underwhelming. Even with the optional turbocharged and larger engines on upper trims, most report that the Dart feels slow compared to other cars in the class.
The Darts steering and handling get better reviews with many reviewers reporting that steering is accurate and responsive. Test drivers also say that the Darts handling is nimble with a comfortable ride.
Reviewers report that the Dart has comfortable and spacious seating in the front and back. The cabin is also well liked for its upscale materials and thoughtful design. The Dart does not come standard with air-conditioning, power door locks or cruise control. So if you want those features youll need to upgrade. Optional features include Dodges Uconnect infotainment system which adds an 8.4 inch touch screen. Many reviewers say the Uconnect system is among the best in the class.
