Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Dodge Ram has good safety scores, earning five out of five stars for both driver and front passenger protection in frontal crashed from the federal government.  It has not been subjected to side-impact crash tests.  Two-wheel drive Rams earn a four-star rollover rating, while four-wheel drive Rams earn three stars.  While several reviewers say the Ram appears to have all the requisite safety gear, CNET complains about poor rearward visability. A rearview camera is standard on the high-end Laramie trim, and optional on the middle SLT, TRX and Sport trims.  The camera is not available on the base ST trim, which is a shame -- not only would it improve safety while backing up, it would also make it easier to hitch the Ram to trailers.

  • "Ram offers such safety essentials as side-curtain air bags front and rear; stability control with traction control plus anti-lock brakes to keep the pickup planted on straight, winding or wet roads; hill-start assist to keep from rolling when starting on an incline; and trailer sway control that uses the ABS and engine controls to keep whatever you're towing from dancing behind you." -- Chicago Tribune
  • "With its huge rear blind spot, the Dodge Ram is sorely in need of a backup camera." -- CNET
