Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The federal government gives the 2010 Explorer top five-star scores for all seating positions in both frontal and side crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not yet tested the 2010 model, but gave the 2009 model a top score of "Good" in frontal offset tests. It gets a score of just "Acceptable" in side impact tests - when most SUVs in its class receive scores of "Good."
- "Traction and stability control, 4-wheel ABS brakes, skid plates, Hill Start Control, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags for the first two rows are all standard, with the option to add a rearview camera." -- Car Gurus
- "Ford has loaded the Explorer with standard safety features, to put to rest concerns that have dogged the Explorer since the Firestone Tire rollover scandal of the last decade." -- U.S. News
- "Lingering concerns exist because of the Explorer-Firestone tire rollover controversy of several years ago. Ford thus has stepped up and given the Explorer a standard AdvanceTrac anti-skid system with class-exclusive Roll Stability Control." -- MSN
