Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Ford F-150 does very well in federal government crash tests. It comes with the safety features expected of trucks in its class, but lacks side air bags. Kelley Blue Book points out this shortcoming, writing, "Safety-conscious consumers won't care for the lack of side-impact and side-curtain airbags."
The F-150 gets top scores of five stars for driver and passenger protection in frontal crash tests. Both the 2WD and 4WD models get four-star rollover ratings. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the 2008 F-150 its top rating of "Good" in frontal crash tests.
Accident Avoidance
Anti-lock brakes are standard on the Ford F-150. According to Automotive.com, they're "smooth and responsive," and "start slowing the truck just a little way into the pedal travel." Also standard is a tire-pressure monitoring system. Traction control is available for V8 models, but not for models outfitted with the V6.
Crash Protection
While side air bags aren't available, the F-150 is equipped with dual frontal air bags that deploy according to passenger size and weight.
