Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
Few reviewers comment on how the F-150 looks, except to say that the exterior redesign didn't change the truck's character much. What gets reviewers most excited, however, are the clever features Ford outfitted the F-150's exterior with. The tailgate step, side-step, cargo tie down system and collapsible bed extender available on the F-150 all won substantial praise.
- "Some, such as the tailgate step, stowable bed extender and the integrated trailer brake controller are hand-me downs from Ford's 2008 Super Duty pickups. The step looks a little rickety at first, but once you use it, you'll never have sore knees again." -- Detroit News
- "Ford rules the cargo box: Among the many fun features are a deployable side step (to help reach inside the truck); a fold-out tailgate step with assist handle; and a set of slide-out tool trays or drawers built into the lower quarter panel." -- Los Angeles Times
- The bed in the new F-150 may be the most practical of any full-size pickup. Among the truck's handy new features is an optional step integrated into the rear lift-gate that allows one to step up into the bed with a minimum of strain." -- BusinessWeek
- "There is a new stowable bed extender that can secure extra-long cargo beyond the end of the tailgate. When it's not needed, it separates and folds into the sides of the cargo box, completely out of the way. It replaces a cage-type bed extender that was removable, but could not be stowed." --Fort Worth Star-Telegram
- "The F-150 offers four different box options, a 5.5 foot box, 6.5-foot box, a 6.5-foot style side, and an 8-foot box. All can be outfitted with a raft of goodies like the fold-out tailgate step first seen on the Super Duty pickups. If you've never used it, it's actually a pretty slick idea. It folds away when not in use and works better than jumping in and out of the bed." -- Jalopnik
- "The truck's Stowable Bed Extender is a unique option that we really liked. It folds out of the way when not in use and easily flips back when you want to use the open tailgate for extra room. The extender is very simple to operate and is a great feature if you plan to haul a motorcycle or a pair of ATVs to your favorite off-road destination. " -- PickupTrucks.com
