Most reviewers agree that the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid's interior is stylish and uses upscale materials. But how is it out on the road? Hi! I am Jim Sharifi, Senior Editor with U.S. News Best Cars. In this video we will take a closer look at the Fusion Hybrid's performance. The 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid has a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine and an electric motor which combine to produce 188 horsepower as well as a continuously variable transmission. The base model achieves an EPA estimated 47 miles per gallon in the city and 47 on the highway which is excellent for a hybrid car.
Still, some critic says that to get the best fuel economy you have to have a very light touch on the accelerator. Most auto reviewers say the Fusion Hybrid offers ample power for city driving though some more in that highway passing maneuvers require some planning.
Still, they are impressed with how quiet the power train is saying that transitions between the gas engine and electric motor are particularly smooth. They are divided on the Fusion Hybrid's handling with some saying it feels composed through turns and others saying that there is too much body lean when cornering.
Most test drivers think that steering has good road feel, but the regenerative brakes are disliked for being too touch and unrefined.
