Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Ford Ranger receives good safety scores in federal government crash tests.

The federal government gives the 2010 Ford Ranger Regular Cab model an excellent five-star score for  driver protection  and four stars for passenger protection in front crash tests. It also gets a rollover rating of three stars for all models. Side-impact crash test results have not been released yet. The Ranger fares slightly worse in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests, receiving second-best scores of "Acceptable" in frontal offset tests.

For 2010, Ford made their Roll Stability Control system, which can help prevent rollovers, standard.  Also standard are side-chest airbags.  Reviewers applaud the addition of the safety equipment, as it no longer means the Ranger lags the class in that department.

  • "The Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Hummer H3T and Toyota Tacoma are the only small trucks that offer stability control standard, but they don't have roll prevention systems, as the Ranger does. If the Ranger senses a rollover is about to occur, it has a four-channel antilock braking system to brake individual wheels and can cut engine throttle to try to bring the vehicle back into an upright attitude. Front passengers will get side airbags that help protect the head and chest from injury." -- PickupTrucks.com
