Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The GMC Canyon, which is equipped with similar safety features to its competitors, performs well in government crash tests.

The regular and extended cab models get four out of five stars for driver and front passenger protection in front impact tests, while crew cab models earn five out of five. All Canyon models receive four out of five stars for rollover resistance. In side impact crash tests, all models receive four out of five stars for front seat occupant protection. King Cab models get five out of five stars for rear seat passenger protection in side impact crashes while other models have not been rated. Anti-lock brakes are standard on the Canyon. On two-wheel drive models with automatic transmissions, traction control is available. A tire-pressure sensor comes standard to warn drivers of dangerous tire conditions.  The Canyon has standard front air bags, and side-curtain airbags are newly standard for 2010.

  • "GM has improved the Canyon's safety credentials by adding standard side curtain airbags. Stability and traction control are also standard. GM's electronic stability system uses electronic brake controls to help the driver maintain control of the vehicle in certain situations." -- Cars.com
