Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

One of the main differences between the Terrain and Equinox is styling. Where the Equinox is curvy and sleek, the Terrain is boxy and truck-like. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is up for debate. Some reviewers like the truck-like look, while others feel the Terrain -- a car-based, crossover vehicle -- is trying to be something it's not. Either way, the styling stands out, which can be considered a plus in a generally conservative class.

  • "At first glance, you'd say the 2010 GMC Terrain is a truck: upright, squared-off and with beefy shoulders over the wheels that would look right at home on a Hummer or Jeep." -- Edmunds
  • "If there is anything that might stir up controversy about the design, it's the dominant grille, followed by the squared-off wheel openings-both of which tie the Terrain to other GMC offerings, but don't work as well on the Terrain. Other than those, there's little any of us find disagreeable." -- Car and Driver
  • "And while most crossovers are trying to look and feel carlike, the Terrain seems to be pretending to be a truck, with bulging wheel wells and a bold grille ringed with enough bright trim to fill a '58 Buick with jealousy." -- New York Times
  • "An expansive grille nestled between large headlights, squared-off haunches framing each of the four wheels, and a tall, imposing profile give the Terrain a tough, masculine look that belies its compactness." -- Popular Mechanics
  • "Strong, square fender openings that work pretty well on the Acadia look forced on a crossover this size, much like what Jeep did with the Patriot's side surfacing to make it look true to the brand. And the large, chrome-laden grille is just too much on this Hyundai Santa Fe/Ford Edge competitor." -- Truck Trend
