Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
In 2007, GMC redesigned the exterior of the Yukon, making it look smaller and more elegant than previous models. While reviewers have accepted the new look, most agreed that the styling isn't revolutionary.
"The outside is clean and fresh," reports the Detroit News. Cars.com says, "In black, the Yukon looks like it could shuttle either foreign dignitaries or rap stars, and maintains a look as elegant as any vehicle this big can manage." Still, they add, "if you don't want to be noticed, pick the Yukon."
Describing the new look, About.com says, "The hood has been rounded over slightly, giving the impression of a hot rod hood that has been nosed. A big, smiling mouth-shaped grille area has a bold ‘GMC’ logo at center. Large, vertically stacked headlights dress each corner. The windshield is more steeply raked than before, lending a sportier look." New Car Test Drive adds, "The smooth, gently contoured flanks and arrow-straight beltline visually lower the height. Remarkably tight tolerances between body panels invite comparisons with the highest quality imports."
The redesigned tailgate was popular with reviewers, who particularly liked the optional power tailgate that is available on most models. "The power tailgate takes the stretch and strain out of raising and lowering the tailgate, and in its raised position is out of the way even for taller people," says Autobytel. However, the tailgate is liked for its functionality, not its looks. "As inspired as the Yukon's overall new look is, the back end is decidedly less so. Then again, a family vehicle that has to accommodate up to nine people and haul their cargo doesn't leave stylists much leeway for creativity," says New Car Test Drive.
