Garmin nuvi 255
Like others in the nuvi 2x5 series, the Garmin nuvi 255 is well-liked for its simple operation and bloated features list. And considering what is offered with the nuvi 255, preliminary reviews especially appreciate the price.
Garmin nuvi 255 Preview
The Garmin nuvi 255 offers the recognizable Garmin arsenal -- JPEG picture viewer, Garmin Connect Photos, travel tools and MSN Direct compatibility -- but the nuvi 255 also provides text-to-speech capability where as the nuvi 205 or 205W don't. Like the rest of the 2x5 series, the 255 also has a redesigned map screen and a faster 333 MHz processor designed to increase the speed of maps retrieval and route calculation.

Other GPS Devices to Consider
According to reviewers, the TomTom GO 920T is not the very best of its class, but it's certainly in the top tier. It sports a stunning design and excellent performance, but its voice command feature could use a little work.
The Garmin nuvi 500 Series gets favorable reviews because it can handle any navigation situation you throw its way -- in the car, on a bike, on a trail, even on a boat.
A great device for going against the grain, the Mio DigiWalker C520 offers abundant features for its price class, and an easy-to-use 4.3-inch touchscreen. However, some say its navigation capabilities are not superior to other mid-range GPS devices.
The Magellan Maestro 4250's sharp design, easy operation and nifty features are a nice blend. Some reviews point out occasional touch screen lag and even some cases of the unit freezing up. But despite this, the Maestro 4250 receives favorable reviews for its overall value.

It's a confusing time to be shopping for a new car. While there are some incredible deals to be had, many of those incentives are for cars that don't offer a lot of value in the long term.
