TomTom GPS
To some, TomTom GPS systems don't have as much prominence as a Garmin or Magellan unit, but the Netherlands-based company is the leading manufacturer of navigation units for Europe. TomTom also caters to a niche -- exclusively offering devices and software for road travelling, be it an automobile, motorcycle or motorscooter. As such, TomTom concentrates its efforts on offering increasing innovation and convenience for in-car navigation, ranging from the rumored HD two-way traffic GPS soon to hit U.S. shores, or the TomTom 920's capability to locate the lowest priced gas prices in your driving area.
In a coup for the nav industry, TomTom recently acquired the digital maps company TeleAtlas, which could have a significant impact on the company's map software and that of its competitors in the future. Already, reviewers are impressed with TomTom features like Map Share -- which allows you to change your maps and share with other TomTom users on the go -- or TomTom's Enhanced Positioning Technology, which uses additional sensors to keep your location while you travel through areas prone to lose the satellite signal.
