Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2008 Hummer H2 has not been rated in government crash tests. Though its size, rugged construction, and weight do give it an advantage in crashes (often at the expense of other vehicles), Hummer has improved safety by adding standard side curtain airbags for all three rows of seats, Brake Assist and Stability Control for 2008.

Accident Avoidance

The 2008 Hummer H2 has four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes with dual piston calipers with dynamic rear proportioning. Brake Assist is newly standard for 2008, as is traction control and a newly refined stability control system with rollover mitigation. Tire pressure monitoring is also standard.   A rearview camera is also newly standard for 2008, but it isn't perfect. AutoWeek reports "the backup camera is mounted inboard and below the spare tire, making it appear your bumper still has plenty of clearance from an obstacle long after the spare tire has made solid contact."

Crash Protection

Car and Driver says "Upon the unfortunate occasion that 6650 pounds and physics don't work in your favor, Hummer has outfitted the '08 H2 for the first time with curtain airbags for all three rows (the third row is now able to hold two passengers, not just one), as well as a rollover sensing system."  Cars.com  reports that the side curtain airbags "deploy downward along the side windows for all three rows of seats. They're designed to deploy if a rollover is sensed, in order to protect occupants and prevent their ejection.
