Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2010 CR-V has not yet been crash tested, but the 2009 model received top five-out-of-five star ratings in all federal government crash tests and a four-star rollover score (which is excellent for an SUV). It also received top scores of "Good" in frontal, side impact and rear crash protection tests conducted by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. However, in roof strength tests conducted by the same agency, it received a score of just "Marginal" (second worst on a four-point scale). Several SUVs, including the Toyota RAV4, received better scores in the tests, which measure roof strength by pushing a metal plate is pushed against one corner of a vehicle's roof at a constant speed.
On the plus side, reviewers applaud the 2010 Honda CR-V for its safety features, which are standard across all three trims. They include everything expected in a family SUV: Dual-stage front airbags, front side airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, Electronic Brake Distribution, Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control, Brake Assist and many others
- "Visibility is good in all directions, even to the rear. That's rare among SUVs, and credit goes to the relocation of the spare tire and the redesign of the rear-seat headrests." -- Kelley Blue Book
- "A large glass area and big outside mirrors allow good driver visibility." -- MSN
- "When equipped with the navigation system, the CR-V also gains a rearview camera that automatically activates when the vehicle is placed in reverse. Though the CR-V's excellent rearward visibility doesn't make the camera a necessity, the peace of mind the camera affords is a welcome addition. Armed with the camera, we were able to fit the CR-V into some of downtown San Francisco's ridiculously small parking spaces." -- CNET
