Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Honda Civic Hybrid receives top scores of five stars from the federal government in both driver and passenger protection in a front-end collision as well as for rear passenger protection in a side impact collision. For front passenger protection in a side-impact collision, it receives a rating of four stars. In rollover testing, the Civic Hybrid gets a rating of four stars, meaning that there is only a 10 percent chance of rollover in a single vehicle crash, which is about standard for the class.

The insurance industry has not tested the Civic Hybrid, but it gave the 2009 Honda Civic top scores of "Good" in front-end, side impact and rear crash protection tests.

The Hybrid's increased price means it comes standard with more safety features than most other affordable small cars. Safety features include six airbags, anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist, and Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control.

  • "Long front roof pillars impede outward view to the corners; long dashtop shelf and sloping nose complicate judging distance in close quarters. Some sunlight conditions trigger annoying windshield reflections." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Notable features include antiskid control to stabilize the car in changes of direction." -- Iguida
