Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Honda Civic does very well in government crash tests, earning the top score of five stars for both driver and passenger safety in a front-end collision as well as for rear passenger safety in a side-impact collision. It earns a four-star rating for driver safety in a side-impact collision, which is still impressive. Another four-star rating in rollover testing means that the Civic only has a 10 percent chance of rollover in a single vehicle crash, which is good for the class.

The insurance industry has not yet had a chance to test the 2010 Civic, but the 2009 model fared very well in its tests with the sedan model, receiving a "Top Safety Pick" award. Both the two- and four-door Civic received top scores of "Good" in both frontal and rear crash protection tests. The four-door model earned the same score of "Good" in side-impact testing, while the two-door still fared reasonably well in the test with a score of "Acceptable."

All Civics come with a number of standard safety features, including six airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution and active head restraints for both the driver and front passenger. Unfortunately, Vehicle Stability Assist and Brake Assist are standard only for the EX-L and SI trims.

  • "Tiny front quarter windows on the sedan, necessary to allow the front door windows to roll all the way down, push the side view mirrors a bit too far rearward for quick and easy glances at neighboring lanes." -- New Car Test Drive
