Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
The FCX Clarity features a teardrop shape reminiscent of the Toyota Prius, but with the cabin pushed forward and a very large windshield providing outstanding visibility. The shape is constrained only by the need for aerodynamics - there is no engine in front, no transmission beneath. Reviewers almost universally love the car's shape. It is currently available only in a deep red Honda calls Garnet Star Metallic.
- "The FCX Clarity is the most beautiful car to ever wear the big H on the nose. It's just gorgeous, a big garnet-red teardrop falling from the cheek of the future, a sweet stanza of robot-written poetry." -- Los Angeles Times
- "A strikingly sculpted four-place sedan...Although it still looks like a car, there's no denying Honda's claim that the Clarity's styling provides a peek at the future. Freed from the constraints of a bulky gas engine and transmission [the Clarity is] set apart from the crowd by an extremely short nose with a steeply raked A-pillar that begins rising from the hood at the apex of the front wheel cutout. The long, glassed-in cabin is made dramatic by powerful fender and character lines." --Edmunds
- "Exterior Design Leader Masaru Hosagawa explained that the body of the new FCX was specifically designed to highlight the tiny drive-train that propels this relatively large car. The FCX takes the cab forward design ethos to a whole new level with the base of the windshield starting at about the front wheel center line and sweeping all the way back to the edge of the trunk lid in a continuous curve dubbed Dynamic Full Cabin Design." -- Autoblog
- "While some have complained that it looks like a Hondaized Prius, the Clarity is so large as to mitigate that comparison. I maintain it looks like an elongated Accord with Infiniti G Coupe haunches, a chopped front end and a chrome new-gen Volkswagen beard." -- Jalopnik
