Safety - What the Auto Press Says
Because the FCX Clarity is a research vehicle in limited release, neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety nor the federal government has ever crash tested the car.
It comes standard with front, front-side and side-head curtain airbags, as well as Electronic Stability Control and Honda's Collision Mitigation Braking System, which can detect some impending collisions and responds by braking, tightening seatbelts and priming airbags for impact.
The unique safety considerations associated with hydrogen fuel necessitate some safety features. Honda says that sensors placed within the car detect any hydrogen leak, ventilate the car and seat the tank if any leak is detected.
- "The FCX is designed to meet and surpass all safety standards in the US and elsewhere. When this car becomes available next year, it won't require any safety waivers." -- Autoblog
