Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The 2008 Fit receives good scores in crash tests. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the 2008 Fit five out of five stars in front crashes, five stars in front seat occupants' protection in side crashes, and three out of five stars in rear seat occupants' protection in side crashes. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the 2008 Fit a "Good" rating -- the highest possible -- in both frontal offset and side-impact tests. We also give the Fit a good safety score.
- "Some potential car buyers worry that a subcompact might be unsafe for them or their kids because of its size. But the Fit...got a top five-star crash safety rating for front crash performance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration." -- Chicago Sun-Times
- "Good stopping ability, but one test Fit's brakes reacted abruptly with just a little pedal movement." -- Consumer Guide
- "Honda seems to have done what it can to give occupants of the Fit a fighting chance. Safety features in the 2,500-pound Fit include antilock brakes and seat-mounted side thorax-protecting air bags." -- Newsday
- "With the fuel tank located near the center of the vehicle (which is also good from a safety and handling standpoint), the rear cargo floor can be lower." -- The Auto Channel
- In contrast, the LA Times notes a safety feature the Fit is missing. "The car does not have Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) crash structures that help mitigate front-end crashes with larger vehicles." -- Los Angeles Times
