Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Fit earns the top score of five stars in government crash tests for both driver and passenger safety in a front-end crash as well as for driver safety in a side collision. It also receives four stars for rear passenger safety in a side-collision. The 2010 Fit receives a four-star rollover rating, which means it has only a 12 percent chance of rollover in a collision.

The insurance industry has not yet completed its testing of the 2010 Honda Fit, but gave the 2009 model the top score of "Good" in both front and side impact crash testing as well as in rear crash protection testing.  It did however receive only a rating of "Acceptable" in roof strength tests. The 2009 Honda Fit was also given a "Top Safety Pick" award.

Among the Fit's standard safety features are six airbags, anti-lock brakes and active front head restraints. Unfortunately, Honda opted to make vehicle stability assist with traction control and an antiskid system available only on the top-of-the-line Sport trim with navigation (which is about $4,000 more than the base model), a fact which did not go unnoticed by automotive reviewers.

  • "The availability of traction control and an antiskid system is laudable, but we wish Honda would make it standard on all Fits, not just the most expensive Sport with navigation." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Standard ABS does its job, automatically ‘pumping' the brakes to prevent lock-up and sustain steering control in emergencies. But Fit just doesn't come to a halt in as short a distance as many competitors; it certainly doesn't stop on par with the way it handles. Perhaps Honda ought to equip Fit with four-wheel disc brakes instead of a front-disc/rear-drum setup." -- Iguida.com
