Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

Most reviewers believe that the S2000's body style is both sporty and attractive. Still, many auto writers think that the eight-year-old base trim looks dated and the new CR appears overdone. The S2000's exterior design ranks low within its class.

  • "The S2000 strikes a very un-Honda like, somewhat wicked pose. When viewed from above, the S2000's flared front-wheel arches and tapered hood closely resemble an angry cobra about to strike: A fitting look, considering this car's performance potential." - Kelley Blue Book
  • "The S2000 is Honda's embodiment of the 'next generation' open-top sports car. This means the engineers at Honda were looking at the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z3 when they designed this car. One report said a Honda engineer admitted the Lotus Elise was in the picture, too." - MSN
  • "The S2000 CR is a special edition of Honda's little roadster that looks like a refugee from The Fast and the Furious..." - Automobile Magazine
  • "The S2000 CR has a much more aggressive look thanks to the aerodynamic body kit that features a front spoiler that wraps around the corners of the vehicle, rocker-panel extensions, a large rear wing and faired-in headrests." - Road and Track
  • "Honda says the aforementioned rear wing [on the CR trim] and lowered and bulging chin significantly reduce high-speed aerodynamic lift (by something like 70 percent). We say those pieces reduce the car's overall visual appeal by 79 percent. The roll bar cowlings (those humps behind the seats) look merely silly." - Edmunds
  • "The biggest news of all is that an aluminum hardtop replaces the convertible soft-top as standard equipment. Some club racing circuits require a hardtop to get on the track, and the CR delivers that option." - Cars.com
  • "The aluminum hardtop looks sharp, and we even grew to like the front and rear spoilers." - AutoWeek
  • "The electric-folding roof is left off the CR, along with sound insulation and a spare tire, adding up to a net 99-pound weight saving with the hardtop off and 51 pounds with it on, says Honda." - Car and Driver
