Exterior - What the Auto Press Says
The Honda S2000's exterior design is polarizing. While some critics think its menacing appearance fits its spectacular performance abilities, others believe that it looks comical. Most, however, agree that its eight-year-old base trim looks dated.
- "The S2000 strikes a very un-Honda like, somewhat wicked pose. When viewed from above, the S2000's flared front-wheel arches and tapered hood closely resemble an angry cobra about to strike: A fitting look, considering this car's performance potential." -- Kelley Blue Book
- "The first thing you notice about the Honda S2000 Club Racer (CR to you and me) is that giant rear wing. Then you see the more-than-a-little-dorky headrest fairing and the garish yellow stitching on the seats. Oy, you think, it looks like a cartoon." -- Automobile Magazine
- "The S2000 CR has a much more aggressive look thanks to the aerodynamic body kit that features a front spoiler that wraps around the corners of the vehicle, rocker-panel extensions, a large rear wing and faired-in headrests." -- Road and Track
- "Honda says the aforementioned rear wing [on the CR trim] and lowered and bulging chin significantly reduce high-speed aerodynamic lift (by something like 70 percent). We say those pieces reduce the car's overall visual appeal by 79 percent. The roll bar cowlings (those humps behind the seats) look merely silly." -- Edmunds
- "The biggest news of all is that an aluminum hardtop replaces the convertible soft-top as standard equipment. Some club racing circuits require a hardtop to get on the track, and the CR delivers that option." -- Cars.com
- "The aluminum hardtop looks sharp, and we even grew to like the front and rear spoilers." -- AutoWeek
