Used Car: 2009 Hyundai Accent Review

Review Last Updated: 7/25/12

The 2009 Hyundai Accent is a basic commuter car with good fuel economy, but its performance and crash test ratings can’t keep up with the competition. You should easily be able to find a better 2009 used small car to meet your needs.

The 2009 Hyundai Accent is ranked:

Available as a sedan or hatchback, the 2009 Hyundai Accent might look small from the outside, but when it was new, reviewers liked the roomy and comfortable cabins. Both models also have good cargo space. Another bright spot is the Accent’s fuel economy ratings of 26/35 mpg city/highway, which is good for the class.

The 2009 Accent made its mark as a budget-friendly car, so it doesn’t offer a lot of standard features. The base Accent GS doesn’t have air conditioning or a stereo, but they were available as options, along with power windows and door locks and keyless entry. The GLS trim had available options like satellite radio, as well as anti-lock brakes and electronic brake-force distribution. Despite the available safety options, the Accent’s safety scores are among the worst in the class.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2009 Toyota Yaris is also available as a sedan and hatchback, but it has better reliability and safety ratings than the Accent, as well as more standard features. The Yaris gets slightly better city fuel economy than the Accent, but reviewers said that, like the Accent, the Yaris has cramped back seats.

With the 2008 Ford Focus, you get better performance than the Accent with a minimal trade-off in fuel economy. The Focus also has a reliability rating that’s a little higher than the Accent’s, and its safety score is much better. Inside, reviewers found the Focus’ second row short on leg space, but they said the cabin’s highlight was its available voice-activated Sync infotainment system, which debuted on the 2008 Focus.
