The Azera has a list of standard safety features which The Washington Post calls "impressive." The 2008 Hyundai Azera scored four out of five stars in government frontal-impact crash tests and received five out of five stars in side-impact crash testing for the front seat and four out of five stars for the rear seat.
In addition, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests rated the 2007 Azera a top score of "good" for passenger protection in frontal offset crashes and "Acceptable" in side-impact testing.
Accident Avoidance
Every Azera is equipped with Electronic Stability Control, which helps keep the vehicle on its intended course. Electronic Stability Control also includes a Traction Control System, reducing wheel spin on slippery surfaces. The San Francisco Chronicle calls these two features "potential lifesavers," and good standard equipment. The Anti-lock Braking System featured on the Azera is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes and Electronic Brake Force Distribution. The Azera has active head restraints, which are designed to help protect the front occupants from whiplash in a rear collision.
Crash Protection
The Azera has the expected safety features such as a body structure featuring front and rear crumple zones, bodyside reinforcements and energy-absorbing steering column to protect the driver. In addition, the Azera is equipped with two advanced front air bags, two front seat-mounted side-impact air bags, two rear seat-mounted side-impact air bags and two roof-mounted curtain side-impact air bags. Auto reviewers from CNET note that the Azera is "well covered by air bags."
