Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The Tiburon scores well in government crash tests. It receives five of five stars for driver protection and four of five stars for front passenger protection in frontal crash tests, and receives four of five stars for front-seat occupant protection in side impact tests.

Accident Avoidance

Standard accident avoidance equipment on the Tiburon includes anti-lock brakes and a tire-pressure monitor. Electronic stability control with traction control is available, though only for the SE model. Consumer Guide says these features are "a plus," but contends, "Other models should offer it too."

Crash Protection

The Tiburon is equipped with front and front-side airbags. A reviewer for the Detroit News is "worried about the rear-seat passengers" because "they get no air bag protection." NHTSA did not test the back seats in side impact tests because the seats were deemed too small.
