Reviewers said the seven-passenger 2010 Hyundai Veracruz is a good family crossover, thanks to its surprisingly luxurious interior and long list of standard features. However, the Veracruz still can't match the sportier handling of competitors from Nissan and Mazda.

When it was new, reviewers said the 2010 Hyundai Veracruz was a solid family crossover that was particularly well-rounded. Though it doesn’t stand out for any aspect in particular, the Veracruz’s well-rounded nature means that it’s a good choice among 2010 midsize SUVs. While this Hyundai comes with lots of standard features, great safety scores and an especially upscale interior, it may fall short if you’re looking for sporty performance or a roomy third row. However, if you can get past these weaknesses, reviewers agreed that you’ll likely be happy with the 2010 Hyundai Veracruz.
The Veracruz comes standard with seating for seven, front-wheel drive and a 260-horsepower V6 engine. Both trims, the GLS and Limited, are available with all-wheel drive. Standard features include air conditioning with rear controls, parking sensors, a USB port and satellite radio. The Limited trim adds features like leather seats, a sunroof, dual-zone climate control, a cooled center console and a power liftgate.

If you like the Hyundai Veracruz but need more seats or more cargo space, consider the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. While it doesn’t come with nearly as many standard features, the Chevy Traverse has more cargo space than most 2010 midsize SUVs. Both SUVs have similar reliability and safety scores, although the Traverse can seat up to eight, while the Veracruz only seats seven. The Traverse is not particularly fun to drive, but reviewers said that for a smooth-riding SUV with tons of space and an adult-sized third row, the Traverse is one of the best choices in its class.
Shoppers who don’t want to give up some sportiness when switching to a family SUV should take a look at the 2010 Mazda CX-9. When it was new, test drivers said it was one of the most fun-to-drive midsize SUVs on the market, and they liked the CX-9’s upscale interior. The CX-9’s third row isn’t as roomy as the Traverse’s, but reviewers said adults should be fine for short trips. The Veracruz does, however, best the CX-9 with higher safety and reliability scores.
