Used Car: 2009 Infiniti G37 Review
The 2009 Infiniti G37 has a refined interior, taut suspension and a powerful engine, and provides a sporty and luxurious ride. Its below-average safety and reliability scores, however, keep it from the top of the class.
The 2009 Infiniti G37 is ranked:
When it was new, reviewers praised the 2009 G37 for offering performance and refinement that rivals the highly-regarded BMW 3-Series. They said it has a comfortable cockpit and all the mechanical makings of a good sport sedan. For those who aren’t constrained by the limitations of practicality, the G37 is also available as a coupe or retractable hardtop convertible.
Powering the G37 is a 3.7-liter V6 that produces 328 horsepower. Reviewers agreed that the engine is plenty powerful, and gives the G37 lively acceleration. Buyers can select from a manual or automatic transmission. A unique Sport trim includes a sport-tuned suspension, bigger brakes and a limited-slip rear differential. In addition to rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive was newly available for 2009, but can only be paired with an automatic transmission. A rear-wheel drive sedan with an automatic transmission achieves 18/26 mpg city/highway, which is just below the class average. Maximum trunk capacity in the sedan is 13.5 cubic feet, which is about average for the class. Bear in mind that the convertible’s folding hardtop is stowed in the trunk, so trunk space is fairly limited with the top down.
Inside, critics liked the G37’s use of high-quality materials and overall design theme. They said the front seats were comfortable and supportive, and sedan models had sufficient legroom in the rear. Most testers said the coupe and convertible’s back seat was fairly inhospitable, but that’s a common complaint for coupes and convertibles. The G37 comes standard with leather seats, a six-speaker stereo with satellite radio, push-button start and automatic climate control. Available equipment includes Bluetooth, a Bose stereo, navigation, a backup camera and adaptive cruise control.
Other Cars to Consider
If you’re looking for a sport sedan, be sure to check out the 2009 BMW 3-Series. The 3-Series was a critic favorite for its refined, sporty suspension and smooth engines, as well as its high-quality interior. Like the G37, the 3-Series is available as a sedan, coupe or hardtop convertible, in addition to a high-performance M3.
Another alternative worth considering is the highly-rated 2009 Acura TL. Critics said the TL offers great handling when equipped with Acura’s Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive. They also said its interior is comfortable and modern, and is packed with an abundance of technology features. Additionally, the TL trumps the G37 with exceptional safety and reliability ratings.
