Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The federal government awards the 2009 G37 sedan its top score - five stars - in all crash tests, with one exception  The sedan earns four stars for protecting its front-seat passenger in a frontal-impact crash.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the G37 its highest score, "good" on both frontal- and side-impact crash tests.

G coupes and sedans come with front, front-side and full-length head curtain airbags. Convertibles feature the same, with curtain airbags that spring upward from the doors instead of down from the roof. Convertibles have pop-up roll bars to protect occupants in the event of a rollover.

Active head restraints are standard. Four-wheel antilock brakes are standard, as is a traction control and "antiskid" electronic stability control system. An optional feature that Infiniti calls "preview braking" is included with the optional "intelligent cruise control."  Preview braking primes the brakes with additional power in anticipation of a panic stop.  The same system cinches safety belts during sudden braking. Another optional feature swivels the car's headlight slightly during turns to help illuminate corners.
