The 2008 Jaguar X-Type strives to emulate classic Jaguar styling, and while some reviews say that the car delivers on that goal, most think it falls just short of those standards. The X-Type is available as a four door sedan as well as a five door station wagon.
Kelley Blue Book says, "Jaguar wanted to make this car look like it costs twice as much as it does and, with continued improvements, it's getting closer to a more refined Jaguar appearance. Still, the rear quarter looks more Ford than Jaguar (Ford, after all, owns Jaguar), although upgrades to the exterior trim and new wheels help minimize this effect."
Reviewers think the exterior styling of the X-Type isn't going to set the automotive world on fire, but no one is lining up to pelt it with rotten fruit either. "The styling is pure Jaguar scaled down to the X-Type's size. The hooded oval headlights, rectangular grille and elegantly arched roof all recall the original, timelessly elegant 1969 XJ large sedan," says Edmunds. For most, the X-Type has enough of Jaguar's expensive appeal to pass muster and will likely be one of the more stylish cars (or wagons) in the pick-up lane after school, with CarsDirect reporting, "The car looks better on the road than it does in pictures, or even in the showroom."
