Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

Americans who have grown used to Jaguars that play up their English heritage and resemble historical Jaguar vehicles will be shocked by the XF. This car is the first example of a new design direction for the brand. It's aggressive, modern, and sporty-looking. Though the XF is a sedan, its lines are coupe-like. The new sheetmetal divides the press -- some say it's too derivative of other brands, while others like the look and say it will help Jaguar win a younger following. Many agree that it doesn't photograph well -- it's simply a better-looking car in person.

  • "Just a reasonably attractive sedan from a company that needs a ravishing, wallet-emptying beauty." -- Los Angeles Times
  • "It all depends on when you catch the 2009 Jaguar XF. Sometimes it's stunning; sometimes it's stunningly bland. Sometimes it resembles a four-door Aston Martin; sometimes it looks like either a Dodge Intrepid or a Chrysler LHS." -- Jalopnik
  • "Jaguar had been mired in a styling rut, perpetuating past designs to the point of irrelevance. We've heard a few pundits suggest the XF "doesn't look like a Jaguar." To which we say: Right, and none too soon." -- Car and Driver
  • "It would be hard to find anyone who thinks the new XF is ugly. It has stunning, taut lines that look more like a coupe than a sedan." -- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
  • "Make no styling judgments until you've seen the XF in person. Distinctive as it may look in photos, in the metal the XF radiates a modernity and sexiness that simply don't translate to the printed page."-- Motor Trend
  • "Some may argue that in profile, the XF looks like the Lexus GS series, and that the nose, with its wide-awake headlights and squarish grille, is somewhat quirky. But overall, most would agree it's a handsome sedan that impresses one more in the steel than in photos." -- Edmunds
