2011 Jaguar XK Review

This review was written when the 2011 Jaguar XK was new.

The 2011 Jaguar XK is powerful enough for weekend drives and is loaded with high-tech features, but its small cabin, confusing infotainment system and poor visibility may deter some shoppers.

When it comes to its performance capabilities and aggressive looks, the automotive industry drools all over the 2011 Jaguar XK. “They are stunningly beautiful. They are thrilling to drive hard. They are luxuriously modern,” writes Automobile Magazine. Few test drivers disagree. The 2011 XK has great engine power, precise handling capabilities and a supple interior.

But, once test drivers’ initial reactions subside and they settle behind the wheel, negative critiques emerge. Reviewers say the XK has a cramped rear seat, limited cargo space and poor rear visibility. And, while the interior has an impressive standard features list, reviewers say the controls are confusing.

Other Sports Cars to Consider

When it come to sports cars, it can be difficult to find a model that’s both powerful and great for daily driving. The Jaguar XK is one of them, but there are several options that perform just as well or are more comfortable. One model to check out is the Mercedes-Benz SL. The SL starts at about $103,000, making it one of the most expensive models in its class, but reviewers say it’s one of the best sporty city cruisers available. Unlike the XK, it doesn’t have a back row, but test drivers don’t seem to mind.

The 2011 Jaguar XK has a powerful engine, a smooth transmission and a sporty attitude, but several super luxury sports cars surpass its performance. One is the Porsche 911 Carrera. Its 3.6-liter V6 engine produces 345 horsepower, 40 less than the XK, but reviewers still prefer the Carerra because it’s more nimble. You’ll pay less for top performance too: The Carrera starts at about $78,000.

The 2011 Jaguar is available as a coupe or convertible. The coupe starts at $83,000, while the convertible costs $89,000. Both models come with a 5.0-liter engine that reviewers like. For more power, you can upgrade to the XKR trim, which is significantly more powerful and more expensive. It starts at about $102,000 for the convertible and about $96,000 for the coupe. Its 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine produces 510 horsepower. The XKR is reviewed separately.

  • "The 2011 Jaguar XK provides the luxury and comfort expected from the legendary marque as well as lofty levels of performance. It has a few quirks, but they rarely detract from the XK's very pleasurable motoring experience." -- Edmunds
  • "The Jaguar XK convertible is one of the most graceful droptops around, but you might be surprised by how engaging a driver's car it is, especially the XKR version, which packs a big punch thanks to its supercharged V-8 engine." -- Cars.com
  • "With a stunning body design and a pleasing growl from the direct injection engine, the 2011 Jaguar XK Convertible is an attention-getter." -- CNET
  • "They quite liked the "just-their-size" rear bucket seats when the top was down, but with the top up, the complaints of feeling crowded started to flood in. It's probably best to keep the XK in the heated garage until the kids go to Grandma's for the weekend. When the kids are away, the parents must play!" -- Mother Proof
