Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The federal government gives the 2010 Jeep Compass four out of five stars for driver and passenger safety in frontal crash tests, and top scores of five stars for front- and rear-seat safety in side crash tests. It gets a four-star rollover score, meaning its chance of rollover in a single vehicle crash is low for an SUV. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not tested the 2010 Compass, but gave the 2009 Compass a top score of "Good" in side impact crash tests (frontal crash tests have not been conducted). In rear crash protection tests, the 2009 model got a score of just "Acceptable" -- however, many other Jeep models, including the Liberty and Wrangler, received scores of "Poor."
The Compass comes standard with supplemental side curtain front and rear air bags, but supplemental front seat-mounted side air bags are only optional and cost an extra $250. Other standard features include Brake Assist, Electronic Roll Mitigation, Electronic Stability Control and Hill Start Assist.
