Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The federal government gives the 2010 Grand Cherokee top five-star scores for all seating positions in both frontal and side impact crash tests. The 2WD model gets only a three-star rating in rollover tests, which means it has a 20 percent chance of rollover in a single vehicle crash. The 4WD model gets a better score of four stars, which means it has a 19 percent chance of rollover. The insurance industry gives the Jeep a top score of "Good" in frontal offset and rear crash protection tests, but a much worse score of "Marginal" in side impact tests.
The Grand Cherokee comes standard with supplemental side curtain airbags, supplemental side curtain front and rear airbags, four-wheel traction control, an Electronic Stability Program and an Enhanced Accident Response System. A Brake Assist system boosts brake power in emergencies. A ParkSense Rear Park Assist system and ParkView Rear Back-Up Camera are optional.
- "The all-wheel-drive system, electronic stability system and traction control all work together to make the Grand Cherokee a sturdy ride. I always felt safe driving it, even in the ice and snow that greeted us one day. Added to this sturdy extravaganza are Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist, which come standard with all-wheel drive and are designed to keep the Grand Cherokee slow and steady when traversing difficult terrain, and keep it from rolling backward on an incline, respectively." -- Mother Proof
