Used Car: 2009 Jeep Patriot Review
The 2009 Jeep Patriot is a good SUV for off-roading, but poor interior quality, underpowered engines and below-average reliability keep the Patriot near the bottom of its class.
The 2009 Jeep Patriot is ranked:
According to most reviewers, the 2009 Jeep Patriot is most capable on dirt roads and climbing rugged hills, but performs only adequately around-town and on the highway. When it was new, test drivers thought that the Patriot’s four-cylinder engine was underpowered for the class and struggled with merging and passing. Though reviewers liked the Patriot’s suspension for off-road driving, on the road they complained about vague steering. In addition, the Patriot trails other 2009 compact SUVs in terms of reliability.
The Patriot featured an updated interior for 2009 and won some critics over because of the improved material quality, but it still lags behind many rivals. Reviewers felt that the Patriot is spacious, but disliked the back seats, noting that they were firm, flat and offered little thigh support.
Other Cars to Consider
The highly-ranked 2009 Chevrolet Equinox was praised by reviewers for its smooth performance and comfortable interior, and it comes with an outstanding reliability rating. The Equinox also has a more-powerful base engine than the Patriot. However, the Patriot has higher safety scores and better fuel economy. It can’t go off-road like the Patriot, but most reviewers said the Equinox is a better all-around SUV.
If you’re considering a Patriot, you should take a look at the 2009 Kia Sportage. Compared to the Patriot, the Sportage has a better reliability rating, and reviewers recommended it more strongly in part because it has innovative storage options and more standard features than the Jeep.
