Kia K900 Review

The 2015 Kia K900 ranks 5 out of 10 Luxury Large Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of published reviews and test drives of the Kia K900, as well as reliability and safety data.

Those in the market for a luxury car may be wary of the Kia brand, but reviewers say the 2015 K900 provides a smooth ride, a potent V8 engine and numerous features at a reasonable price.

The 2015 Kia K900's standard V8 engine is muscular and delivers smooth acceleration, according to critics. They add that the eight-speed automatic transmission provides swift, seamless shifts. According to the EPA, the 2015 Kia K900 gets 15/23 mpg city/highway, which is a bit low for the class. Most reviewers say the K900 has a very comfortable ride and strong brakes, but can’t match the handling prowess of its German and Japanese competitors, pointing to the K900’s body lean during cornering and numb steering.

While it's not the hottest performer in the class, the K900 has other virtues. It has the best combination of interior space, safety and reliability ratings and available family-friendly features in its class, making it our 2015 Best Luxury Large Car for Families.

The 2015 Kia K900's cabin is stylishly designed with premium materials and quality fit and finish, reviewers say. The trunk is spacious for the class, and critics applaud the K900's lengthy list of standard and available features. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, according to auto journalists, and the back seat provides ample headroom and abundant legroom. Standard features include leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, Kia’s UVO infotainment system, a 9.2-inch display, navigation, front- and rearview cameras, front and rear parking sensors, proximity key, push-button start, tri-zone automatic climate control, a 14-speaker sound system, a USB port, Bluetooth, HD Radio and satellite radio. Available features include ventilated rear seats, power reclining rear seats, a 17-speaker Lexicon surround-sound audio system, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic monitoring, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control with full automatic braking.

  • "The questions about the Kia K900's potential success have more to do with brand perception than they do with the car's actual merits. Sure, the K900 has a couple chinks in its armor -- namely, its less-than-nimble handling and the fact that some of its controls and switchgear can't compete with its high-dollar competitors. But the K900's $60,400 starting point makes it considerably more affordable than some of its foes while delivering a surprisingly quick, comfortable and smooth drive." -- AutoTrader
  • "The 2015 Kia K900 represents a premium luxury sedan experience that won't break the bank. It lacks some refinement in the details, but is still worth considering based on its long list of features and comfortable cabin." -- Edmunds
  • "The K900 appeals as a full-size flagship that offers all the comfort, space, refinement and power of the best luxury cars on the market at a more reasonable price. However, getting buyers to part with more than $60,000 for a Kia will be a daunting task." -- MSN Autos
  • "If you're not a badge snob and can see embracing the ‘at-ease’ lifestyle, the K900 proves there's real substance, value and luxury available at the unlikeliest of showrooms." -- Autoblog

Other Cars to Consider

Reviewers praise the Mercedes-Benz E-Class’ opulent cabin, large trunk and comfortable and spacious seats. The base, diesel-powered E250 model gets great fuel economy for the class and test drivers think it accelerates quickly enough for highway passing and offers plenty of power at low rpm.

Automotive journalists say the Lexus GS stands out in its class because of its top-notch interior materials, agile handling and very supportive seats. The GS also has excellent safety and reliability scores for the class.
