Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The 2009 Kia Optima earned five out of five stars in both frontal- and side-impact crash tests performed by the federal government. The insurance industry has not tested the 2009 Optima. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety offered a mixed verdict on the mechanically-similar 2009 Optima, giving it a top score of "Good" in a frontal-impact crash test, but only an "Average" score in side-impact testing. Six airbags and active head restraints are standard equipment.

Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, and Brake Assist are all part of an added-cost option package on the Optima.
