  • Consequence: UNUSUALLY SEVERE IMPAIRMENT WHILE DRIVING COULD EXPOSE THE DRIVER TO THE RISK OF A CRASH.
  • NHTSA Campaign ID: 08V459000
  • Potential Number of Units Affected: 6680
  • Summary: KIA IS RECALLING 6,680 MY 2008-2009 RONDO LX AND EX VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.4 LITER ENGINE. THE FUEL PUMP MAY NOT OPERATE PROPERLY RESULTING IN NOT ENOUGH FUEL GETTING TO THE ENGINE. POOR ENGINE STARTING, ENGINE HESITATION, AND OTHER IMPAIRMENT MAY RESULT, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT MAY ILLUMINATE.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP SUB-ASSEMBLY WITH AN IMPROVED PART. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 16, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KIA AT 1-800-333-4542.

Warranty

The Rondo comes with a five-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. MSN calls the lengthy basic warranty, which is also featured on Hyundai's vehicles, "the most-generous new-car warranty in the auto industry." In addition to the basic warranty, the Rondo comes with an equally generous ten-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, a five-year/100,000-mile limited anti-perforation warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance plan.

Newsday calls the Rondo's reliability "less certain" because it's so new: "Consumer Reports hasn't published any information on it yet from its surveys of reader/owners; other Kias for which the magazine has data are average, except for the Sportage SUV, which is rated worse than average."
