Safety - What the Auto Press Says
Reviews are almost unanimous that the Kia Sedona, which received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) "Top Safety Pick" award, is the safest minivan around. "One place where the Sedona excels," says Newsday, "is in safety."
In government crash tests, the Sedona received a top rating of five out of five stars in frontal crash tests for driver and passenger protection, as well as five out of five stars for both front and rear seat passenger protection in side crash tests. The Sedona also received four out of five stars in rollover tests.
Accident Avoidance
Standard accident avoidance features on the 2008 Kia Sedona include traction control and electronic stability control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution and a tire-pressure monitoring system. A back-up warning system is available as an option on the EX. The Los Angeles Times feels that "you have to commend Kia for making ABS, traction control and stability control standard equipment. Vehicles like this, that are likely going to convey children, need additional layers of electronic safety aids as standard."
Crash Protection
The Sedona is well equipped with seat belts and air bags, including dual-front advanced air bags, dual front seat-mounted side air bags, full-length side curtain air bags, three-point seat belts for all seating positions, front seat-belt pretensioners with force limiters, height-adjustable belt anchors for the first and second rows, front active headrest, front and rear crumple zones, an impact-absorbing steering column and lower anchors and tethers for children (LATCH).
