2012 Kia Sedona Performance

This performance review was created when the car was new. Some links may no longer point to an active page.

Minivans aren't generally thought of as performance vehicles, and the Sedona lives up to that reputation. While it's not the best choice for thrill-seekers, those seeking a minivan with easy-to-live with drivability, a decent amount of power from its V6 and predictable handling won't be disappointed with the Sedona.

  • "Like the Honda Odyssey, the Sedona handles well for a minivan. Its commendable cornering feel offers confidence enough to weave around the road's unexpected obstructions." -- Edmunds
  • "On our handling course we found the Sedona to be competent if ordinary." -- Motor Week

Acceleration and Power

The 2012 Kia Sedona comes with a 3.5-liter, 271-horsepower V6 engine. Reviewers say the engine is plenty powerful enough for around-town driving.  The standard six-speed automatic transmission has a manual shift mode, which reviewers appreciate.  Reviewers also don’t say much about the new six-speed automatic transmission. The EPA rates the 2012 Kia Sedona at 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

  • "The 2012 Kia Sedona's 3.5-liter V6 generates plenty of power for family and domestic shuttling duties. ..." -- Edmunds
  • "A six-speed automatic transmission includes a manual-shift mode, something few minivans offer. The 3.5-liter V-6 makes 271 horsepower and 248 pounds-feet of torque." -- Cars.com

Handling and Braking

Reviewers are somewhat impressed with the Sedona’s handling. While it’s no sports car, it can handle curvy roads without drama and is easy to live with in parking lots. Still, at least one reviewer compares the Sedona’s handling to the Odyssey’s, which is high-praise in the minivan segment.

  • "Ride quality doesn't suffer any for the Kia's heightened reflexes either, as the cabin keeps calm and quiet on the highway and over rougher pavement." -- Edmunds
  • "Laps up miles in smooth, spacious comfort." – Car and Driver
