Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The Sedona does very well in government and insurance industry crash tests, and the 2008 model was selected as an IIHS "Top Safety Pick" for its performance with electronic stability control.
Crash Tests
- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives the 2009 Sedona five stars for front impact and side impact crashes. The Sedona also earns a four-star rollover rating.
- Although the 2009 test scores have not been released, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2008 Sedona a "Good" rating, the highest possible, for frontal offset and side impact tests. The Sedona was also selected as a "Top Safety Pick" for good performance in front, side and rear tests with electronic stability control.
Safety Features
The 2009 Kia Sedona's standard accident avoidance features include traction control and electronic stability control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution and a tire-pressure monitoring system. A back-up warning system is available as an option on the EX. The Sedona also has dual-front advanced air bags, dual front seat-mounted side air bags, full-length side curtain air bags, three-point seat belts for all seating positions, front seat-belt pretensioners with force limiters, height-adjustable belt anchors for the first and second rows, front active headrest, front and rear crumple zones, an impact-absorbing steering column and lower anchors and tethers for children (LATCH).
