Safety - What the Auto Press Says
The federal government gives the 2010 Kia Sportage top five-star scores for all seating positions in both frontal and side crash tests, as well as a four-star rollover score (which is about on target for its class). However, the 2009 model suffered in insurance industry crash tests, receiving a second-best score of "Acceptable" in frontal offset and side impact tests. Though it receives a top score of "Good" in rear crash protection tests, it receives the lowest possible score, "Poor," in roof strength tests. Several of its competitors, including the Toyota RAV4, Honda Element and Jeep Patriot, receive top scores of "Good" in these tests.
Among its safety features, the Sportage comes with Electronic Stability Control, a traction control system, dual front advanced air bags, dual front seat-mounted side air bags, and full-length side curtain air bags.
