Safety - What the Auto Press Says

The Lexus ES earns strong safety scores from the federal government.  The car also earned top scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in both frontal- and side-impact crash tests.

The 2009 Lexus ES comes with an extensive list of standard safety features.  Electronic Stability and Traction Control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution and brake assist are included.  Frontal airbags, front-side-impact airbags and head-curtain airbags are standard, as are Toyota's unique knee airbags, which protect the driver's knees from impacting the dashboard during an accident.  Most impressive, however, are the optional Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Lexus's Pre-Collision System. When engaged, the Dynamic Radar Cruise control uses sensors to detect and adjust speeds according to traffic conditions without driver input. The Pre-Collision System uses sensors to detect collisions before they happen. When a possible collision is detected, the system primes the brakes (which lessens the collision speed), cinches seatbelts and primes the airbags to deploy.
