Safety - What the Auto Press Says

Safety agencies have not crash tested the GS 450 Hybrid specifically. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has crash-tested its gasoline-powered counterpart, giving that car perfect scores in both frontal- and side-impact testing.

The car is equipped with a Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system (VDIM), which manages the car's Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Antilock Braking System with brake assist and electrically-assisted steering in order to minimize loss of traction and help maintain vehicle control in emergency maneuvers. If a crash is unavoidable, the car comes standard with dual-stage and side curtain driver air bags, dual-stage and side seat-mounted front passenger air bags, side seat-mounted and side curtain rear passenger air bags and active head restraints.

An optional Pre-Collision System uses radar waves to detect a vehicle ahead and determine if a front collision is avoidable. The moment the driver pushes the brake pedal, the system then retracts the front seatbelt, activates Brake Assist and primes the airbags to fire.
