Exterior - What the Auto Press Says

The 2010 Lexus IS is one of the edgier-looking cars in its segment, and reviewers like the look.  Convertibles feature a three-piece, aluminum hardtop roof that retracts in 20 seconds at the touch of a button.  Unlike some hardtop convertibles, however, it can't be raised or lowered unless the car is stopped.  The front face of the convertible edition differs slightly from other IS models, with a revised front air dam and different fog lights.  Lexus bulked up the convertible's trunk in order to offer cargo space even while the top is down, which gives the drop-top edition a very different look from the rear.

  • "Strikingly taut styling...a sharp-looking compact luxury sedan." -- Edmunds
  • "A pro athlete in an impeccably tailored suit." -- AutoMedia.com
  • "Although every exterior panel and molding on the IS C is unique to the convertible (except the hood), it looks to untrained eyes like a sedan that has met a hacksaw." -- Car and Driver
  • "It's clear that the IS C's design couldn't be confused for anything outside of the Lexus stable. The changes made to its rear-end are thorough and create a compelling and markedly different look from its sedan counterpart (the two don't share any body panels)...The voluminous back end looks more like the C70 than the 328." -- Autoblog
  • "It's unmistakably Lexus but visually fresh." -- New Car Test Drive
  • "There are few complaints about the exterior design. The face carries the new Lexus family stare, and the car is wider, a bit longer, and more substantial looking than the model it replaces. It also has fewer lines stamped into it than the Bavarian rival and, to our eyes, is better for it." -- Motor Trend
  • "You won't see clones of your car on every street corner." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The IS slips through the air with quiet stability. In addition to the distinct aerodynamic wedge of the overall shape, a number of small details contribute to the exceptional coefficient of drag (0.28)." -- New Car Test Drive
  • Of the upcoming convertible, "In developing this all-new design, only the hood, headlamps, door handles and mirrors are shared by the sedan. The front overhang is increased slightly and incorporates a new front fascia with fog lamps integrated into the front air dam. The fenders have muscular wheel arches and the body flows into a slightly raised rear deck, so designed to accommodate the three-piece hardtop beneath a hard tonneau. In profile, the shape is seamless, accented only by the raised roll hoops for the two rear-seat passengers." -- Road and Track
